Providing a catalogue of suggested solutions for different categories of issues, this book offers a balanced overview and methodological examples for the practical implementation of the CRA. It considers CRA in the USA, Europe and Germany, using case studies to analyze and exemplify the decision-making processes and challenges involved. The authors then go on to look at the practical lessons learned from these case studies, together with an in-depth discussion of the underlying scientific hypotheses.
Sound scientific knowledge for everyone who makes decisions, whether government ministers, regulators, or company directors.

Sandison’s Scotland is a wonderful collection of stories and tales about some of the country’s most wild and evocative places. From dark Loch Ness to the turbulent waters of the Pentland Firth, join Bruce on the path less travelled as he goes behind the scenes of Shetland’s Up Helly Aa festival and the raucous Kirkwall Ba’ Game, played for generations by the people of Orkney. There are also stops in remote townships – Helmsdale in the east, distant Glenelg in the west – visiting the crofts and castles that make Scotland so special. Throughout these exceptional tales, Bruce Sandison’s love for his native land shines through as he brings the people, culture and history of Scotland to life. Sandison’s Scotland is full of hidden gems and is a book for all times and all seasons. It will captivate, amuse and delight anyone with a love for Scotland.

These Lecture Notes are based partly on a lecture given by one of us (H. R. ) at Tiibingen University in Spring 1991 and partly on a lecture given at the f Egyptian-German Spring School “Particle and Nuclear Phyic I’ in Cairo in April 1992. They are addressed to graduate students and young esearch workers in theoretical physics. Some knowledge ofquantum field theory, especially on func tional integral techniques, are required. These Notes are intended to give a ped agogical introduction into the description of hadrons, Le. , mesons and baryons, within a quark model based on a chirally invariant quantum field theory. A more detailed description of of the subject in Chap. 4, the chiral soliton of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, is given in a recent review [AHW95]. In these Notes we have used results from recent research papers. It is a pleasureto thank our coauthors for their fruitful collaboration. We are especially indebted to Dr. Herbert Weigel who carried the main load in the investigations concerning the NJL soliton. We thank also Albrecht Buck and Udo Ziickert for their valuable contributions. Furthermore we also acknowledge discussions with Kurt Langfeld, Lorenz von Smekal, Christian Weiss, Roman Friedrich, Axel Bender, Gerhard Hellstern, and Jiirgen Schlienz. Tiibingen, January 1995 R. This is the story of five 50-plus women looking for good men in today’s dating world. They try everything from newspaper ads, a cruise, a dance, nightclubs, church single groups and Internet match-making sites, where they meet an array of undesirable and obnoxious male characters. After Sandy Applegate, the main character and narrator, comes up with a plan based on “You have to kiss 50 frogs before you find your prince,” her four friends decide to give it a try. However, they continue to meet frogs and find themselves in bizarre and often embarrassing situations.
They finally change match-making sites on the advice of an old friend, where Sandy meets a handsome doctor. But she embarrasses herself on their first date and discovers that she is a frog. After making some personal changes and setting their sights higher, the gals begin to experience a change of luck on this new match-making site. Spying on each other, a surprise 50-year pregnancy, a series of mishaps and outrageous doggie behavior moves the story along. In the end, each gal finds her prince or princes.
Woven into the story is Sandy’s neurotic pint-sized English bulldog, who creates havoc for his mistress and all who meet him, especially the gentlemen callers. This odd little pooch leads Sandy straight to her prince—a “Canine Behavior Specialist.” Winchester also finds happiness with the help of Prozac and a new doggie playmate.

A Critical Introduction to the Visual/Verbal Divide
Text and image are used together in an increasingly flexible fashion and many disciplines and areas of study are now attempting to understand how these combinations work. This introductory textbook explores and analyses the various approaches to multimodality and offers a broad, interdisciplinary survey of all aspects of the text-image relation. It leads students into detailed discussion concerning a number of approaches that are used. It also brings out their strengths and weaknesses using illustrative example analyses and raises explicit research questions to reinforce learning.
Throughout the book, John Bateman looks at a wide range of perspectives: socio-semiotics, visual communication, psycholinguistic approaches to discourse, rhetorical approaches to advertising and visual persuasion, and cognitive metaphor theory. Applications of the styles of analyses presented are discussed for a variety of materials, including advertisements, picture books, comics and textbooks.
Requiring no prior knowledge of the area, this is an accessible text for all students studying text and image or multimodality within English Language and Linguistics, Media and Communication Studies, Visual and Design Studies.

This comprehensive reference emphasizes the dynamic events that occur in the maintenance and repair of blood vessels in health and abnormalities that may result from dysregulation of inflammatory and immune responses in disease. The editors have assembled authors and topics that bring new concepts about cell and molecular biology to the clinician to provide a better understanding of pathogenesis, the diagnostic process, and treatment. Recent insights into pathogenesis have dramatically influenced development of new therapies that target disease pathways.
Inflammatory Diseases of Blood Vessels discusses
organ selectivity in varying forms of vascular disease
mechanisms of arterial tissue injury
functions of the extracellular matrix
cytokine expression in vasculitic disorders
diagnostic approaches to 1° and 2° vasculitis
conventional therapies
new targets for immunotherapy
and more!
With contributions by 90 leading worldwide authorities in the field and providing over 4700 valuable references, drawings, photographs, micrographs, and tables, Inflammatory Diseases of Blood Vessels is an authoritative and essential resource for rheumatologists, pathologists, cardiologists, immunologists, allergists, nephrologists, pulmonologists, vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons, and trainees in these disciplines.

First published in 1988, this book offers a comprehensive description of the functions and performance of organisational surveys from a wide range of European experts in the field.
The book examines the utility of organisational surveys as a method of research for the social sciences and as a support for employee relations strategies and personnel policies. It looks at the broad question of ‘what are the key dimensions of an organisation with which managers and researchers should be concerned?’ and at how they can be an essential element in a participative management approach to employee relations. Throughout, the book emphasizes the utility of surveys for the study and understanding of organisations.
